The star has handed over the complete sum of his £25k honor cash to the MVT, which functions to protect the Britain's independent concert spaces.

Fender was given the cheque on October 16 as his latest record the album was named the outstanding release of the past year.

He has decided to hand the money over to the MVT, in acknowledgment of the crucial part grassroots venues played in his initial steps.

"As an artist couldn't be pursuing my current career if it weren't for all the performances I played around the North East, and further afield, when I was starting out," remarked the artist. "These venues are renowned, but they are facing challenges."

Since the start of 2023, more than 150 of these spaces have ceased operations – roughly one-sixth of the total UK scene.

Over the past year, top acts like Pulp, Coldplay, Katy Perry and Ed Sheeran have all backed the Music Venues Trust in its initiatives to help venues survive, by including a modest fee to their ticket prices, which goes to help independent venues.

Fender also joined in, collecting over £100k on his live tour to assist 38 local spots across Britain.

The money supported spaces that were dealing with imminent closure due to issues arising from floods, fires and personal losses, as well as permit problems, conflicts and neighbor objections.

Additional spaces obtained monetary aid in improving infrastructure and gear that helped performers and audiences.

"The notion that funds from performances in major spaces supports the smaller venues, where it all starts for musicians like me, is just logical," the star has said.

He is among several artists to donate his Mercury Prize prize money to good deeds.

In Pulp earned the prize in the year 1996 for their record the album, lead singer Jarvis Cocker announced that the act would donate their cash to the organization War Child.

In 2002, artist she shared her bounty between several organizations, including the children's charity and a Sickle Cell organization.

"And I contributed a grand to Highgate Newtown, to their gymnastics class, because I trained in gymnastics when I was growing up and they needed updated gear," the artist shared with the media.

Previously, they donated their winnings to the local youth club that developed their group, alongside other grassroots music organisations.

And winners that year the group contributed their winnings to a MS organization after a close contact was diagnosed the illness.

"Winning was sufficient," remarked vocalist Heather Small. "The money was the extra but we could do without the extra, because we had the honor. So our winning touched the lives of others."

In the past week, the Music Venues Trust announced it had protected a couple of local spots in south-east England, by bringing them into local control.

The Joiners in Southampton and the other in Bristol were bought under the public acquisition program, which is funded by a national body and music fans who buy "shares" in the buildings.
